Final project: The Element of Surprise

Image
The Element of Surprise  There are SEVERAL different versions of surprise. Fear, shock, relief, anger, confusion, happiness, etc.  Personally, I feel the element of surprise is better conveyed and in a much more satisfying manner when it's animated vs. live-action.  Just for funsies: Surprise is a good way to improve acting skills. You want to convince your audience and not "fake" the emotion of feeling surprised. Actors want to feel an emotional connection to the characters they are portraying. They want to convey surprise with natural and compelling talent.  Many actors have difficulty acting surprised because, having read the script, they know in advance what is going to happen. It’s also sometimes difficult to see what real surprise looks like because we’re used to seeing people exaggerating their surprise in commercials, on social media, and even in real life; this article aims to give examples of what real surprise looks like in different settings. Be aware tha...

Harley Quinn Facial Expression 1. What is role does facial expression play in reading behavior and in your character analysis sequence? Facial expression is just as important as body language for conveying and displaying personal emotions within a social situation and are essential for social interaction.  2.  Are facial expressions consistent with body language? Yes, very much so. 3.  What is the most common facial expression that your character expresses in the character analysis?        Every time she smiles.  Happiness seems like the perfect expression for my character analysis sequence.  Notice the lovestruck expression on her face as she eagerly watches and waits for her egg sandwich order. The excitement continuously builds up ...

Gesture Analysis - Individual Assignment

Image
The Harley Quinn Gesture Analysis  Harley Quinn is on a mission. Under a death threat, she becomes an unstoppable not-so-killing machine. This stance and gesture when she makes her entrance to the Gotham police station signifies her newfound confidence, heavily driven by motivation to show not just to Roman Sionis but to everyone else in Gotham that she is no longer bound to the Joker.  She is no longer insecure or heavily reliant or heavily dependant on the Joker. Here she is literally a one-woman army, on her own, with a new purpose. To save herself. She is done waiting to be rescued. The way she confidently holds her "fun gun". In this scene she doesn't even kill anyone, she purposely modified a grenade launcher to shoot confetti, glitter, powder bombs, and small bean bags.  Even when her life is threatened, she maintains her humorous side by personalizing this weapon with her own motifs. She could be forcing herself to enjoy her mission when she breaks into the Gotham...

Animated Short Analysis - Luxo Jr

Animated Short Film Analysis Pixar's Luxo Jr By Jessica Tang       Released in 1986, Luxo Jr. is one of my favorite short films. While the story is simple, it birthed the creation of the bouncing lamp which would later earn its spot as the Pixar logo. Even after 30 years it still holds up.  Progression           Luxo Jr tells the story of a parent lamp and his child bouncing a ball back and forth. The child eventually gets too excited and attempts to balance himself on top of the ball, causing it to deflate. Saddened by his loss, Luxo Jr. hops off screen, but later comes back with a beach ball. Luxo Sr. simply looks to the camera and shakes his head.        As these two lamps are inanimate objects, take into account their emotions through the use of effective body language.     2. Conflict   Luxo Senior vs. Luxo Junior.     3. Characters      While the short film is le...
